Supporters of countryside charity the John Muir Trust have been urged to signs its petitions to protect the last remaining areas of wild land.
Those who love to go walking or use their climbing gear in remote parts of Scotland may be among those backing the campaign for greater statutory protection for such places, which the body urged supporters to support in its latest e-newsletter.
It calls on the Scottish parliament to introduce new environmental legislation to protect wild land, while asking the UK government to extend existing national parks and create more national parks or areas of outstanding natural beauty.
Veteran Scottish hillwalker and author Cameron McNeish commented: "As a nation, we have to protect these areas, if only to protect our cultural identity."
Fell runner Stephen Pyke recently donned his running shoes and backpack to complete the fastest ever round of the Munros in a venture designed to raise funds and awareness for the trust.
He climbed all 283 in 39 days and nine hours, knocking nine days and two hours off the previous record.
