People who like to go walking in Snowdonia have been advised to ensure they take insect protection measures to avert the risk of getting Lyme disease.
The national park has been identified as one area of the country where walkers may be infected if a tick carrying the disease bites their leg, Wales Online reports.
Other places that have been noted as areas of risk include the Lake District, the Scottish Highlands and Islands, the South Downs and the North York Moors.
The paper stated that there were 18 confirmed cases among Welsh residents in 2008, with instances across England and Wales trebling since 2001.
Lyme Disease can cause severe nervous disorders and flu-like symptoms.
Insect repellent bought from a Go Outdoors store may help keep insects away as might keeping lower legs covered.
Those bitten by a tick should remove it without squeezing the body as this can inject the contents of its stomach into the wound, while the area should be monitored for inflammation and a doctor consulted promptly if this arises.
