I'd Go and by a cheap 3 in 1 jacket from go outdoors at Pudsey or Wakefield. I prefer 3 in 1's because as the weather gets warmer you can strip out the fleece liner and be left with a thin Jacket. Some say there's no difference between that and buying a jacket and fleece but then the jacket lining is sewn in and tends to be thicker than the 3 in 1 without the fleece. I want a jacket that keeps me warm in winter, keeps the wind out and dry but cool in summer showers. I have got a cheaper jacket that I bought from tj hughes in the sale, with a fleece. It was a bargain BUT the jacket is single layer, not lined at all so its a glorified paca a mac. This would make it ideal for summer only the hood has no wire so flops over and I cant see where I'm going. Shame because it has under arm zip vents and otherwise is a very good light jacket.
some jackets are shorter which are okay for dry weather but in wet I think a longer length one with a waist cord to keep the wind from blowing up is better. A zip that can be undone from the bottom is a must in a longer jacket to get be able to sit down, get at pockets etc. A map pocket is handy. pockets with flaps to keep the rain out, don't want a pocket full of water. There's lots of jackets and some really cheap that are good, especially in the sale at the moment. One of mine was 30 quid, with fleece the sprayway was 40 plus 15 for a medium weight fleece. You just need to go and look at them all, try them on and see which features you like. As for names I have no idea I just buy someone thing thats cheapish that does the job. Not too cheap but cheapish. Unless its footwear Its always lasted well for me.
