1001 Great Family Walks
2 to 10 miles
graded 0 to 3 easy to difficult
easy to read maps
easy to follow directions
Go out doors £6.99
This is a book first published in 2003, first published in this format in 2005 and re printed with amendments in 2007 (purple cover)
This is quite a thick paper back glossy book. The pages aren't numbered but there's three walks to each page.
It's quite well laid out. There's a contents page with colour coded sections for each country are that tally with the colour of the pages in the book. south west is purple, south east green etc. each are is divided into counties and what number walks are in in that county. Cornwall are walks 1 to 30.
Next we have a full country map showing the regions in their colours and the counties marked on.
on the next 8 pages we have an road atlas view of each region with the locations of the walks marked on.
There's also an index list of the place names of each walk in the back along with walking safety tips.
With all these contents and index's you can search by area, county, map of GB or road atlas areas of GB so its quite well thought out.
There's a guide to using the book which tells you what all the information on each walk means.
The main body of the book goes through each area county by county. There's 3 walks to a page, information at the top left, directions underneath and a basic line drawn map to the right.
The information lists total distance, total amount of ascent, gradient guide 0-3 , path surfaces and conditions, how many stiles etc, minimum time suggested for fit walkers without stops, walk themes ( these are little pictures by each walk, there's 10 which are listed but nowhere does it say which goes with what picture, although some are self explanatory some do take some working out) six figure grid reference of the start point, suggested maps to use and informations on car parking.
